I've never been really great at being alone.
I like to think I could live alone, I fought for it at one point because my mother never lived alone and thought it taught you things you could not learn otherwise. But, I have found as I get older I don't really like even being alone very much. My imagination is far too overactive....

The building has creaked, audibly, much more regularly lately. It makes me paranoid about all the earthquake prep I've been too lazy to work on and I can't help picture myself trying to find a safe spot in this overfilled apartment with an anxious ancient cat while all the glass stuff hits the floor...

Carlo Mollino’s private Polaroids - NSFW (NOT SAFE FOR WORK)

Carlo Mollino (1905-1973) was an architect, designer, photographer and writer, not to mention a race-car driver and a pilot. His buildings include the Royal Theatre in Turin, and his furniture, like his photography, is ever more valuable. In 2005, a Mollino table sold for $3.8 million, setting a world record for twentieth-century decorative art.
Upon his death, it was discovered that he had a vast, stunning body of work in Polaroids spanning 1962-1973.

DesignBoom tells us that these were, “the private photographic work he kept which included over 1,000 polaroids portraying beauties of Turin’s nightlife in the nude in mise-en-scène settings. These photographs were part of the preparation of his “house for the warrior’s rest,” known as Casa Mollino, a villa in Turin, situated along the River Po.”
Mollino, said to be one of Italy’s most influential mid-20th century designers, wanted to model his death on those of the ancient Egyptian pharaohs, whose souls were taken by boat to a sumptuous city, where they enjoyed opulent afterlives. Casa Mollino was a house he created for his afterlife, “inspired by the project of the construction of the Egyptian pyramid which is the house for the perpetuity of the pharaohs.”

Flashbak has this nice collection. See also, more here and here.

Because I am an insomniac and know many other insomniacs, and, know not all of it is because they are more creative at night. Because many times that insomnia is due to stress, and hopeless feelings. Because Thursday September 18th was my dad's birthday. Because Wednesday September 10th was Suicide Prevention Day and that week was National Suicide Prevention Week.  Because someone out there up tonight might need this.

bedtime...

2 tacos, 40 Photoshopped photos, a bowl of cocoa crispies, well past 11pm, and I am FINALLY in a good mood and ready for my day to start!
Not only am I not a morning person, it has been confirmed I am not a day person either.

Just in time for goodbye July

Hi! I'm back to the internet! Took long enough huh? Well let me tell you, moving is a bitch. A huge bitch. I am so glad that is done, and I'll tell ya another thing: That's all folks! No more moving. I'm done. Not for years, I need a break!

I lived in one place for the entire first 18 years of my life, then moved 4 times with just a couple years between each. This is the second time I have moved within the same building, the best/worst/best move ever. You don't really pack anything (so there is no packing, yay!), but it all goes too quick and cluttered. Anyhow, we lived through it and now have lots more space. My partner's daughter now lives with us full time and we couldn't be happier. The sorting of stuff goes on, and we are inspired to clean it up and make it classy looking around the new joint, but it's slower going than one might hope. I'd post pictures, but no one wants to look at it currently, trust me. Instead, please enjoy this picture of Pink that I didn't share while it was still Christmas:
